The take-off slope is divided into 3 stages – The First, Second & Third Bump. One gets a chance to do ground handling for 2 days and then fly from the Bumps. The Bumps are in a hierarchy and gives one longer air time as one proceeds. There are lots of tourists pouring in for a short tandem flights and piloting skills are quite popular around there.

 

Solang Nallah is a popular destination for Paragliding, Zorbing & Horse riding in the summer while everyone hits the ice with skis in the winter.

Location Description: Solang, at the altitude of 8500 ft, lies 17 kms ahead of Manali. Solang is known for its ski slopes in winter and breath taking views in summer. At the head of Solang Nallah is the Beas Kund plain. This place was the home for various species of Himalayan wildlife. This is an ideal base for paragliding, camping, trekking, mountaineering, skiing and zorbing.

Equipment to be brought in by the participant

The weather in the mountains changes in minutes. Make sure to carry a few woollens, raincoat and extra clothes for a rainy day. Dont forget to carry a torch and your sunglasses. Most of the things can be bought in the markets in Manali. Solang has a few shops where one can get essential items only.

Day 1: Arrive at Manali in the morning. Reach Sholang. A pickup can be arranged from Manali to Sholang . The distance is 17 kms. You can check into rooms in Sholang which will be booked for you on separate costs. Tents could also be arranged. On the first day you will be briefed about the equipment, your glider, how to handle and maintain it, about wind directions and other information.

 

Day 2: You will start with basic ground handling of the glider. More information will be shared with you carried from the first day. You can start handling the glider and work on the take-offs on the ground.

 

Day 3: You will work towards refining ground handling and take off from the first bump which is about 15 ft. You might get half a minute of your first flight which could be about 15 to 20 ft in the air. You can practice more and refine your art of take offs and ground handling.

 

Day 4: You will go on the second bump and take a flight of upto 50 to 75 ft to get more experience of a flight and how to handle the glider in the air.  You can go ahead and keep practicing more of it throughout the day.

 

Day 5: This day will be when you go on to the third bump and take a good 2-3 minute flight and experience a good flight. You will also be taught how to keep a flight log. Till now you will have enough experience to fly solo. You will also get your Certification in basic Paragliding Course today. Your course will end today.

 

Day 6: You can take a bus for Delhi or you can hire equipment on extra cost and practice more gliding to refine your skills (this is what everyone usually does).

Rs 17,000 per head for a 5 Day Course.
Cost Includes
• Glider and all other equipment required during the course.
• Instructors (If lucky we could get you Austrian or American instructors if they are in town. They have exceptional experience in Paragliding)
• Transfer from Manali to Solang and from Solang to Manali.
Cost does not include
• Room cost for stay in Solang
• Food and other costs.
• Bus Fare from Delhi to Manali and back
