Chopta Tungnath is an offbeat destination for trekking enthusiasts and natural lovers. A trek running parallel to the sky-scraping Himalayan treks. During the sort and easy trek of Chopta Tungnath one can enjoy clear view of majestic peaks of Nanda Devi, Nilkanth, panchchuli and Kedarnath.

Chopta Tungnath is an offbeat destination for trekking enthusiasts and natural lovers. A trek running parallel to the sky-scraping Himalayan treks. During the sort and easy trek of Chopta Tungnath one can enjoy clear view of majestic peaks of Nanda Devi, Nilkanth, panchchuli and Kedarnath. Chopta is an interesting tourist gateway to most popular excursion treks of Tungnath Mandir and Chandrashiila Peak. The Tungnath Mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Chopta is well known for its rich and varied flora and fauna. Trees like Rhododendron and Deodar are found in abundant. Rhododendron forest glows red in early spring as the flower blooms. Chandrashilla peak is the highest peak in the region. One can experience a breathtaking 360 degree view from the peak.

 

Itinerary Chopta Tungnath Trek

Day 01: Overnight train to Haridwar

Take the overnight Mussoorie Express (10:15pm) from Delhi to reach Haridwar early in the morning.

Day 02: Drive Haridwar – Sari and trek to Devariyatal (2440m) 5-6 hrs drive and 2 hrs walk.

A 5- 6 hrs drive will take us to Devariyatal. While going towards Devariyatal, the road goes along the Alaknanda River before entering the Mandakini valley. It’s a gradual uphill climb all the way up to the striking lake of Devariyatal.

Day 03: Trek Devariyatal – Chopta (3000m) 6-7 hrs.

On third day, a drive of 6-7 hrs will bring us to Chopta. This trail goes through the intense forest and stays on the edge all the way to Tali. From here we descend for a while to cross a stream and then climb up gradually to reach Chopta. It is situated in a tranquil setting. It has beautiful meadows surrounded by dense forests.

Day 04: Trek Chopta – Tungnath (3680m) – Chandrashilla Top (4130m) – Chopta.

On this day, start early in the morning and climb up to the temple of Tungnath. There is one Shiva temple which is the highest temple in Garhwal and has definitely a certain mystical/religious feature which is quite based on the spectacular surrounding and views from there.

Day 05: Drive Chopta – Hardwar 6-7 hrs and take a train to Delhi

Drive to Haridwar and take the evening Shatabdi Express to reach Delhi by 10:45 pm
